IAN MCKELLEN, 81 YEARS OLD

Sir Ian McKellen was given the honor of being knighted for his services in performing arts in 1991. And if you’ve followed his career, you’d agree that he is deserving of such a degree of esteem. He has won multiple accolades during his long-running career. Among them are four BAFTAs, five Emmys, and Ian was also nominated for an Academy Award twice. Most people probably know him from his big-budgeted fantasy and sci-fi movies, such as the Lord of the Rings franchise and the X-Men franchise. He played the eccentric wizard Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and the powerful mutant Magneto in the X-Men.

Apart from Hollywood blockbusters, Charles is also well known for his exceptional performances in Shakespearean plays. Ian is considered a British cultural icon, having received every major theatrical award in the UK. During the ‘70s, he became a proud member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre of Great Britain. And by 1981, he received his first Tony Award for best actor for his performance in Amadeus.
