PAT RILEY, 76 YEARS OLD

Pat Riley at 76 years old, has dedicated his life to sports. When he entered college for his degree, he participated in both basketball and American football. Pat was successful at both fields and even led the basketball team to the 1966 NCAA title game. After graduating, he played in the NBA professionally until the 1975-1976 season. A year after his retirement, he would come back to the NBA as a broadcaster for the Los Angeles Lakers. And in the 1979-1980 NBA season, he would become the assistant coach for the Lakers.

Pat’s first year as an assistant coach would garner immediate success with the super-rookie Magic Johnson and Kareem-Abdul Jabbar leading the charge for the Lakers to win the Championship. The two seasons later, he would become head coach and usher in the golden era of the Lakers that would be known as Showtime. Pat coached the Lakers throughout the ‘80s where they won four more championships.
