TENLEY ALBRIGH, 85 YEARS OLD
Tenley Albright was one of the prominent figure skaters who performed in the Olympics during the ‘50s. She was the Olympic champion figure skater in 1956 and won the silver medal in 1952. Tenley also dominated the US Figure Skating Championships, winning from 1952-1956. Moreover, she won the World Figure Skating Championships in 1953 and 1956.
For all her achievements in sports, you would be shocked to know that Tenley was diagnosed with polio at the age of 10 in 1946. However, she was a natural-born winner and a fighter, and four months after her release from hospitalization, she won her first figure skating title. She has the credit of being the first American woman to succeed in the World Figure Skating Championship. Apart from her success on the ice, Tenley is also an accomplished surgeon. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and is a leader in blood plasma research. And for all her achievements in life, she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015.
