JIMMY CARTER, 94 YEARS OLD

At age 96, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is still actively involved in fighting for human rights. He served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. In his high school years, he attended Plains High School from 1973 to 1941. Soon after, he earned admission to the Naval Academy in 1943. He had long dreamed to a great degree of attending the Academy. In 1953, Carter left active duty, and he served in the inactive Navy Reserve until 1961. Carter left the service as a lieutenant.

He received awards during his naval career, such as China Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. In the mid-1950s, Carter began to participate in the civil rights movement against racial segregation and became a Democratic Party activist. From 1963 to 1967, the former president served as Georgia State Senator. Soon after, he was elected as the Governor of Georgia in 1970. The rest is history.
