WILLIE MAYS, 90 YEARS OLD

Willie Mays is one of MLB’s greats. He was an iconic player of the New York / San Francisco Giants. He played professionally for 22 seasons from 1951 until 1973 in the MLB and played as a centerfielder. Right out of high school, Willie was drafted by the Giants in 1950. He would prove himself to be one of the team’s most valuable investments and win the Rookie of the Year Award. By 1954, he had a batting average of .342 and received the Most Valuable Player Award. His championship claim was against Cleveland Indians, and the Giants swept them during the World Series. In 1957, he would cement his name as one of the all-time best outfielders, winning 12 Golden Glove Awards.

By the end of his long successful career, Willie was selected 24 times for the All-Star Games and had an inclusion in the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. He is also ranked second by The Sporting News on their 100 Greatest Baseball Players of All Time. And for all his achievements in the MLB, he was also inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
