CHARLIE WATTS, 79 YEARS OLD

Charlie Watts was initially trained as a graphic artist, but life had different plans for him, even from the get-go. When he began playing drums at some of London’s popular rhythm and blues clubs, he met Keith Richards, Brian Jones, and Mick Jagger. It was in 1963 when the quartet would finally come together, forming the Rolling Stones. Did you know that in the beginning, Watts also designed their tour stages and record sleeves? Their popularity has increased a hundred-fold since then, and decades since they hit mainstream fame, the group remains one of the most respected in the industry.

However, besides the Stones, Watts has also toured with his groups, the Charlie Watts Quintet and the Charlie Watts Tentet. For his contributions to music, induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame became obvious. He is also included in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time list. A credit that he so rightfully deserves!
