DON EVERLY, 84 YEARS OLD
Don Everly is one half of the iconic Everly Brothers who brought their brand of country-style rock and roll into the mainstream. The brothers were raised in a musically-inclined family and had quite an early start in the industry. From a young age, they appeared on the radio alongside their parents, Margaret Everly and Ike Everly. Together, they were known as “The Everly Family.” As for the brothers, they first began composing music on their own in 1956. Just a year after, they scored their first hit with Bye, Bye Love.
By 1958, they were releasing one hit after another. This includes All I Have to Do Is Dream, Wake Up Little Susie, and Problems. They were later signed by Warner Bros. and became one of the biggest-selling acts of their generation. Groups such as the Bee Gees, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys credit the Everly Brothers’ style of singing and guitar playing for influencing their sound.
