Mad Men star Jon Hamm had been dating fellow actress Jennifer Westfeldt for close to 18 years when they split up in 2015. While it was an amicable break up, many people began wondering why they never considered marriage in the nearly two decades they were together. The answer might be simpler than some might think. For his part, Hamm never considered Westfeldt as “just a girlfriend”.

Aside from the fact that they had been together since 1997, the former couple also shared a home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. The actor goes on to say that even if they were never officially husband and wife, what they had was much deeper. Perhaps this is why they still remain good friends even after the split. Hamm also believes that people should only marry once they’re ready to have children. Will he ever settle down in the future? While it may require some money management, he isn’t closing the doors on the idea completely.
