GARTH HUDSON, 84 YEARS OLD
Garth Hudson is one of music’s most revered multi-instrumentalists. He is best known for being part of The Band as its saxophonist, organist, and accordionist. Hudson is also known for influencing the group’s overall sound. Sadly, along with Robbie Robertson, they are the last two living members of the rock supergroup. Yet, Garth remains one of the most respected and in-demand session musicians.
Even the likes of Elton John cite Hudson as one of his early inspirations. Did you know that he has also worked with Bob Dylan? They were first introduced in 1965 and have frequently collaborated throughout the years. One such result of their recordings is “The Basement Tapes.”
Despite issues with the mortgage on his home, Hudson also continued to perform as a solo artist. His debut album, “The Sea to the North,” was released back in 2001. The following year, he was honored by the Canada South Blues Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
