PHIL LESH, 81 YEARS OLD
While he has postponed his career due to health issues, Phil Lesh is still going strong at age 81. Lesh is best known as a founding member of the band Grateful Dead. Within the band, Lesh was the bassist and backing vocals with occasional lead vocals. While he is not as prolific as his other bandmates, he left a significant mark on the band’s identity and music style. His unique style of bass playing, coupled with his interest in avant-garde music, helped shaped Grateful Dead into a band that many people are familiar with. Among his most notable contributions to the band include Box of Rain, Truckin, and Unbroken Chain. All are regarded as some of the best among Grateful Dead songs.
After the band dissolved in 1995, Lesh still collaborated with some of his former bandmates in concert tours. Outside of music, Lesh has made investments in his charitable organization. The organization is called the Unbroken Chain Foundation and was founded by him and his wife.
