Greta Garbo – 84, Actor
One of the most celebrated actresses of all time, Greta Garbo has made a big mark with her decades-long career in films. She started her career in 1924 in Sweden. Her performances in Anna Christie, Romance, Camille, and Ninotchka were well-received. To her credit, she received three Oscar nominations. However, she ended her career in 1948. After her retirement, Garbo shunned public life, opting for a life of simplicity and leisure. She became an art collector and her investment portfolio includes many works of art.
Throughout her life, Garbo was known to have been romantically involved with several people. Her most famous partner was her co-star John Gilbert. Throughout their relationship, Gilbert allegedly proposed to Garbo multiple times but Garbo backed out. She stated that she wanted to be independent — this was reportedly the reason for her rejection of Gilbert’s proposals. Despite her romantic history, Garbo never married and has no children. During her later years, she was mostly living on her own until her passing at age 84.
