Rocky Johnson

Rocky Johnson was born Wayde Douglas Bowles in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, on August 24, 1944. While many know him as a professional wrestler, his biggest personal achievement was being the father of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Several of his impressive achievements were Georgia Heavyweight Champion, National Wrestling Alliance titles, and the winner in the 1983 World Tag Team Championship.

Johnson’s career started in 1964 in Southern Ontario. Immediately after, he became known for his moniker. It was the combination of his two favorite boxers, Rocky Marciano and Jack Johnson. After almost three decades in the business, he eventually retired in 1991 and later trained Dwayne as he entered wrestling as well. Long story short, how we know The Rock in the ring and how he became after was partly because of his father. With no life insurance reported, Rocky kicked the bucket at the age of 75 on January 15, 2020. His friend B. Brian Blair mentioned to the Associated Press he opted not to see medical assistance even though he was unwell.
